Forgiving Others

Q'uo describes forgiveness of others as a kind of spiritual medicine — what scours the heart clean and keeps it open in a relationship where it would otherwise close. To forgive is to release the wish to judge or punish and to refuse to hold another within the heart in a state of resentment; it is less about excusing what was done than about freeing oneself and the other from the binding charge of the wound.

Crucially, Q'uo teaches that forgiving another self is at the same time forgiving the self: the two cannot finally be separated, and the release of stored anger, humiliation, and resentment is described as an immense healing made possible only through the infinite love of the Creator working within. To see an error and to love it anyway is what Q'uo calls the royal road back to the unity of all things.

The path there is not denial of pain. Q'uo counsels feeling the hurt honestly and only then choosing the response that turns from resentment toward peace. Forgiveness, in this teaching, is more an emotion of the heart than a mental act — and often a repeated turning of the heart rather than a single dramatic event.
